This article from the Pakistan Observer explains the dangers of an untrained journalist. Online blogs, stories or any kind of published "articles" are skewing the publics' views. The "media" as a whole professor are being criticized but with what right do "people" have to put all of us to blame?
The article states that "journalism has expanded its role and activities and has also grown in power.

The role of media cannot be denied, yet question may arise as to how ethical this role is."
But is it that media power has extended or is it that more people of the public who are untrained are reporting freely and hurting the image of the media. The article states that, " a minimum academic qualification is needed to enter all professions ... but no such basic education is required to become a journalists. A ballpoint pencil and a 20-rupee notebook is all that a semi-literate person requires to attend a news conference or a seminar discussing a highly technical issue."

It is true that a lot of the news of trained journalists are bias and conduct unfair or swayed news stories. But all in all when the "media" as a whole is critiqued who is included? FOX news is clearly one sided and even the N.Y.T. can be found favoring a side. Is is possible then for anyone to be unbiased?

Oyster River Clean Up

This audio project was successful in creating a newsworthy, timely and relevant piece that could easily be transferred into written article. Our group conducted interviews, researched information and found secondary sources in a similar way to what we would do if we were writing the story.
The second project was not necessarily easier but out work with Audacity improved. We cut down the time it took us to edit significantly. Also we used different methods like a phone interview to incorporate other skills.

Coffee Talk

We chose to do Breaking New Grounds for the Audio project. I thought this location would be filled with rich sounds that were expressive of what an employee does in a daily routine. We recorded three interviews and a bunch of sounds for the best result.
The editing and cutting was very tedious but rewarding at the end of the project. The girl that we interviewed had many pauses, ums and likes so we had to edit her voice a lot. The music was meant to incorporate the feel and atmosphere of the coffee shop; the song was also used in the coffee shop.

Overall I am very happy with my group's work.
